If you promote an affiliate program and are not redirecting your affiliate links, you may be missing out on traffic and commissions opportunities. Redirecting your affiliate program links helps to minimize spam filtering of your email campaigns, increase the acceptance of article submissions, build backlinks to your site, and reduce "click fear".

Minimize Spam Filtering

If you are promoting an affiliate program through email, other (unscrupulous) affiliates of the same company may be indirectly hurting the delivery rate of your messages. Email filters will block messages that contain content or links associated with spam. Even if you send your message only to subscribers who have double opted-in to your list, your messages may still be blocked if it contains a URL used by spammers.

Search Engine Optimization

Most affiliate program URLs look something like http://www.example.com/?id=123. Unfortunately, most search engines have limited or no ability to read these links.

Google(TM) warns, "If you decide to use dynamic pages (i.e., the URL contains a "?" character), be aware that not every search engine spider crawls dynamic pages as well as static pages. How to Redirect Your Affiliate Program URL

There are several ways to redirect your affiliate program links. The most "search engine friendly" method is the 301 Permanent redirect with the .htaccess file. You can use this method if your site is hosted on an Apache (Linux, Unix) based server.

To create a permanent redirect, open (or create) the .htaccess file. On a single line add the following code to the file:

redirect 301 /example.html http://www.example.com/?id=123⊂=456

This code tells the server to redirect "http://www.yoursite.com/example.html" to your affiliate link "http://www.example.com/?id=123⊂=456".

Other methods of redirecting include using PHP's header() function and HTML's meta refresh.

No matter what affiliate program you're promoting, you will benefit by redirecting your links. Redirecting your affiliate links can improve the delivery rate of your email campaigns as well as increase CTR. Your articles may be more readily accepted by article directories and web publishers. Furthermore, redirecting replaces links to your merchant with valuable backlinks to your own site.

Negatives

It takes awhile to build a list, whether it's using Desktop Lightning or other methods. Therefore, you have to approach building a list with a tool like Desktop Lightning as a long-term process. Some of the ads for Desktop Lightning refer to sending messages to thousands of people. The ads can make it sound like you'll be sending messages to thousands right away.

Unless you have a huge list of loyal subscribers that just ain't gonna happen!

Of course, if you approach the task as a marathon as opposed to a 100-meter dash then this doesn't have to be a problem. I simply don't want you to assume that a thousand-member downline from the get-go is the norm.

I was initially concerned that DesktopLightning would suffer from some of the same problems as other list-building programs. For example, in many instances the older the program, the less attractive it is to potential new members because they fear being inundated with emails from a large upline and they worry about their own ability to recruit new members.

Another problem with many downline builder programs is that the new member drop out rate is high, usually because new members become discouraged only being able to send emails to a handful of people. Sure, a few experienced marketers build a large downline quickly but the average person has to promote a list-builder for a few months to build a reasonably sized downline. Many new members become discouraged and quit before that happens.

Fortunately, Desktop Lightning has built in a couple of features that ameliorate these concerns.

First, they limit the number of messages any member receives to 14 per week. DesktopLightning explains the mathematical reason for this limit, if you are interested, but the main point is that even if you join a year or two after the initial release, you will not be inundated with messages.

Second, if you are a Platinum member (currently $14.99 per month if you purchase it immediately after signing up; if you wait to upgrade it's $19.99 per month), you benefit from the "Platinum Bonus" program described above, in which you are able to

send messages twice a week to 57 randomly selected Desktop Lightning members.

Recommendation

I'm neutral on the free version since it might prove frustrating for newbies trying to recruit downline members when they have little marketing experience to begin with. It could work for people who know or are willing to learn Internet marketing.

I highly recommend the "Platinum" version upgrade. The clincher for me was realizing that for $3.50 per week I could buy at the most 35 half-way decent email leads, many of which would never reach an Inbox because of spam filters.

Alternatively, I could pay $3.50 per week and send 100 messages direct to the desktops of "prequalified" prospects. By "prequalified" I'm referring to the fact that Desktop Lightning members are already either running or are interested in a running a home business.

If you are able to promote Desktop Lightning to a mailing list or via advertising and you are patient and persistent about it, it could prove to be a great way to build a targeted list of home-based business entrepreneurs with whom you communicate much easier than if you had to rely on email.

Keep in mind that if you choose the Platinum option, you will be able to send messages to 57 random members right from the beginning, even if you have not signed up a single downline member.

If you don't already have an ezine or blog or web site and you know very little about network marketing such that even free advertising on traffic exchanges is not feasible for you, then you'll probably want to hold off on Desktop Lightning.

You can use Desktop Lightning for free but I don't recommend it, mainly because you miss out on the "Platinum Bonus" feature, wherein you send messages to 57 randomly selected members twice a week.

I Never Made A Dime From Affiliate Reselling Until…

A friend in Atlanta sent me a private email directing me to a website he thought I ought to check out. He knew I was disillusioned with affiliate marketing and had all but chucked in the towel.

How to Make a living as an affiliate

95% of all affiliates make $0 - $100 a year. I don't know about you, but in my books, this is not a living. In this quick “How To” guide, we'll take a look at how you can become part of the 5% who ARE making their living online. This guide does not guarantee that you'll make a fortune, but it will point you in the right direction if you're interested in making a living as an affiliate.

1. Mindset: Get in touch with your grey matter. Program your mind with positive, committed thoughts. If you can believe it,you can achieve it. It sounds a bit like a sales seminar, but bottom line is, if you don't believe you can make a living online, you won't. You have to be committed. Commit to yourself that you will develop an income online – no matter what it takes. Think of your business as a bacon and eggs breakfast. The chicken was involved, the pig was committed!

2. Viewpoint: This is your business. Once you've accomplished your first hurdle and committed yourself to making this work, you have to look at your business from the proper viewpoint. No rose coloured glasses here. This is your business. You are the CEO of your own marketing company. You can choose to offer your services to one or several companies. Bottom line, you are responsible for every action in your company. Every decision you make affects your bottom line.

3. Learning Curve: Expect it. Becoming an affiliate is like going to college or university. You start at the beginning, learn the basics and build on what you learn. Take it step-by-step and you'll build a much stronger business. Think of it like becoming a doctor. One doesn't decide to become a doctor with the expectation of opening a successful practice one week from now. It takes time to learn the products or services you're marketing and it takes time to learn to run your business.

4. Budget: Time and money. Set a general budget for both. As a business owner, you'll use plenty of time developing and promoting your affiliate business. Budget as much time as you can each day and make sure you use your time wisely. Set up a budget for your monetary expenses too. You can run a business online with a shoestring budget, just don't expect a mammoth income in the beginning. The more you can invest in your business, the better. This doesn't mean that simply throwing money at your business will make it grow. Every dollar that goes out your door, needs to come back in and bring another dollar with it.

5. Goals: s/he shoots - s/he scores! Your goals will get you through the tough times. There'll be lots of days when you feel like quitting. If you make your goals tangible, you'll make it through the tough days. Money isn't a motivator, but what money can buy, is. Set your goals for a family vacation, a new car, boat, or home. It's much easier to get excited about a shiny red corvette in your driveway than $100,000 sitting in your bank account. Money is only numbers on a pieceof paper or a computer screen, but it can bring you a luxurious lifestyle, and that's where the fun is.

6. Nuts and Bolts: Once you've got your house in order, with the proper mindset, you're looking at your business from a realistic viewpoint, you've got an open mind and you're ready to learn, you've set aside some time and money and you've got pictures of your dream house, car and vacation plastered on your wall, you're ready to go hunting. The next step is to find a business that interests you and offers an affiliate program with a reasonable commission. For information products, one of the most popular and profitable online, you can and should expect a commission of 25% or more.

Pick a product that interests you. Buy it and use it. Your business is based on your recommendations of a product or service. If you haven't used it, how can you recommend it? Avoid running around in circles after the newest, hottest selling product of the day, it only leaves you dizzy and broke.

Choose a product you're interested in. If you like astronomy, becoming an affiliate of a star chart company may be a good fit. Selling women's pantyhose may not.

7. Look before you leap: Finding a company to represent as an affiliate is one thing, finding a company that respects its affiliates is another. Do a bit of research before you jump on the bandwagon. Send an email to the company as if you're a potential customer. 24 – 48 hours is a good response time. This shows that someone is actually running the company. It also gives you an idea of their commitment. Generally, the faster the response, the more committed the company is to doing business. The quality of the response is also important.Did the response answer your question? Was it written in a friendly, professional manor? Did they answer your question directly or simply send you to a FAQ sheet?

8. Flip the switch: If everything checks out up to this point,then your next step is to take action. Fill out the affiliate application form and get your affiliate URL. Now the ball is in your court. It's time to get down to brass tacks. If you freeze now, you make no money and flush your goals down the toilet. If you take action, you make it one step closer to your goals.

9. If you build it – they will come: OK not really, but you do have to build it. If you want to maximize your income and be taken seriously, you need to own a website. Just like a brick and mortar business, you need a professional location to offer your products. Yes, you get an affiliate URL when you sign up as an affiliate, but promoting an affiliate link looks amateur and will help you LOSE 98% of your sales. We'll cover this in point 10.

10. Follow-up = Sales: Only 2% of your prospects will sign up or buy what you're offering, on their first visit. 98% of yoursales will be made from your follow up. There's a very simple method for following up and making sales automatically.

i. Check your favourite search engine to locate a free ebook, software program or report that relates to your offer. If you're promoting a website that sells peanut butter, a free peanut butter recipe book would be a good match. Your give-away must always relate to the product you're promoting to maximize the results of this system.

ii. Build a page on your website to give away your free peanutbutter recipe book. Design the page as if you were designing a sales page. Make people's mouths water until they want the recipes so bad they'd gladly pay for them, but then give it to them free. All they have to do is fill in their name and email address in the simple form and you'll send their recipe book to them instantly via email.

iii. As soon as your peanut butter prospect fills out the form on your site and clicks the send button, they are taken to your affiliate URL where they can buy peanut butter. At the same time, the peanut butter recipe book is sent to their email address.

iv. Now your peanut butter prospect receives an email from you each week with new tips and useful peanut butter information. This information positions you as a peanut butterexpert and gives you the opportunity to promote your peanut butter affiliate website once a week, to hot prospects. This is where you'll make 98% of your sales.

Although this may seem like an overwhelming amount of work for the beginner, it's all very simple. The whole process is run from an autoresponder, a simple piece of email software that automatically sends your prewritten email messages on a predetermined schedule.

How Do I Get Traffic To My Website?

Internet Marketing requires you to sale other people’s products or services, or if you have decided to create your own product, sale your own. But whether you are selling your own or others, we all have one thing in common – getting traffic to our websites. But what is most important is not just getting traffic, but targeted traffic. Thus, How Do you or I get traffic to our sites?

In my early beginnings on the Internet, I tried many methods of getting traffic to my website. I was definitely a newbie in training – some of the software or services that I bought did me no good. I found, at times, that it was truly difficult to decipher which was a good deal and which was not – who was honest, and who was not – but I guess it goes with the Internet territory – and you must always do your due diligence.

However, I have found three methods of getting traffic to my site or affiliate product or service – Buying it – PPC, such as Google, Mamma, Overture, linking or the hard one Search Engine Optimization.

Pay-Per-Click

If you have the money to invest in Google or some of the other search engines pay-per-click programs you can make some money. Here you create an ad or ads relevant to your affiliate program, and place a bid on the keywords you select. This takes time, energy, persistence and money – and research. Also, I would advise that you read your affiliate programs rules, as well as, the rules of Google Adwords before jumping into the pay-per-click arena. You usually have to put “aff” after your ad or something similar to that – it’s dependent upon the affiliate program you are in. The idea with pay-per-click is that you pay only when the individual clicks on your ad.

Linking

Linking can be by either paid or unpaid methods. The paid methods are paying for your link to be shown in Ezines, newsletters or on other peoples’ sites. It can be costly, so the best suggestion that I can give you is to research the Ezines, newsletters and or other people sites that you want to link with before buying. In most cases, if ezines are accepting advertising, you know they must have at least 500+ subscribers, or I should say, be sure that they have at least 500+ subscribers before advertising in their ezine. Know what you are getting before you put your money down – and as they always say, be sure to read the fine print.

The unpaid method is through article creation. This requires hard work on your part, but the return will be seen in the long term. Keep in mind, your articles should be relevant and address the subject matter of your site and products. Content reigns king on the Internet – and if it is relevant to their needs – they will eventually come to read.

Search Engine Optimization is basically the optimization of your web pages so that you can get a decent ranking by the search engines, and thus, to pull people to your website by it relevance. When I was first introduced to DesktopLightning.com, I wasn't
quite sure exactly what to think. Everyone was saying it was
going to be more powerful than e-mail marketing, but this
seemed like too bold of a claim.

I signed up anyway, since I usually give things a chance --
that's how I have found the several sites I do really trust
and rely on.

The signup process did take about 60 seconds, as advertised,
and their software program downloaded and installed in about
30 seconds. No long, tedious install processes here. If you
own downloadable software, you might want to take a look at
how quick their install process is.

Right after installing the software, it ran immediately, and
I was quickly presented with a tool to invite my friends.

Within one-click's access was my Inbox, the tool to send
broadcasts, a statistics page, and my favorite, the "Build
Your Network" page.

I'll get more into why that's my favorite page later.

2. Viral Growth

This is where the site really shines, in my opinion. The
purpose of a viral marketing site is that you should be able
to invite just a few people, and then it will start growing
on its own.

Many sites claim to work like this, but few actually work as
advertised.

I'm not sure if it's because of their unique concept or the
slick implementation, but this site is REALLY viral. Here's
some of the testimonials they got, which I think sum it up

more successful than email as of late, so I won't get into
it too much here. The basic point though is that there's no
way your message can be lost, overlooked, or blocked by any
filters.

If you upgrade to their Platinum service you can do things
like embed video and sound right into the broadcast, but
again, I'll save the Platinum service for another review.

4. Building Your Network
------------------------

Most sites out there nowadays don't really help you build a
network of people below you. They just throw you a URL and
tell you to run with it.

While this works for most advanced people, it's not something
that's very easy for people who are just starting out.

DesktopLightning.com went really far this time to make sure
that everyone has a way to bring people into their network,
regardless of skill level.

When you click on the "Build Your Network" link from within
their application, you'll be presented with a surprising
number of tools to help you build your downline.

Everything from banners, to popups, to text ads, to invitation
tools, to emails to send out, etc.

Then, they continue to offer something which I haven't seen on
any Internet Marketing site yet -- they have a "Starting From
Scratch" section, designed specifically for people who have
no list and no website with traffic.

If you're in that position, then you'll love this section,
since they detail specific strategies you can use to promote
DesktopLightning.com (or anything for that matter), even if
you don't have anything to start with.

Quite a valuable resource.

5. Not For Everyone
-------------------

With all that said, the only downside to DesktopLightning.com
is that it's not for everyone.

Of course, some might see that as an upside, since it's a more
targetted opportunity.

Basically, the bottom line is that DesktopLightning.com is a
promotional tool. You need to have something you want to
promote or advertise before you can really make use of the
site.

This is all due to the fact that the basic concept is that
you build a viral network of people, and then broadcast
something to it.

But, this "something" is whatever you want, so you must
already have something you'd want to send to a lot of people.

If you don't have something yet, you could start building your
network first, and then once you get something to promote
you'll be ready to launch it immediately.

If you do have something to promote, that's when the site
really shines.

6. Conclusion
-------------

I would recommend this site to anyone who has something to
promote or advertise.

It definitely works, and your downline will grow extremely
fast if you put some energy into getting it started.

The direct-to-desktop broadcasts are a killer app in today's
online climate, where emails barely even get through anymore.

The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that it has
nothing to offer for people who don't have anything to
promote or advertise yet.

If you want to advertise or promote something to a lot of
people in a unique and poweful way, then this site is for

Review of the New Affiliate Project X E-Book

Chris McNeeney, who wrote the hugely successful Adwords Miracle has provoked a storm of interest with his latest offering, so I thought I'd better have a look and see what all the fuss was about.

Having downloaded and printed the ebook, the first thing I did was read it through and then go through it again with highlighter. I'd downloaded it around 8pm and by the time I'd finished it was Midnight, but boy was I excited. It may be small in size but it's huge in content and packed full of excellent tips and techniques for generating a decent income online.

First off it's not just another manual about affiliate marketing, there are more than enough of those out there already. Although you may already know some of the techniques such as squeeze pages and building a list, this ebook describes in great detail how to go about it.

There are 50 pages of decent content with each method written down step by step - all you have to do is follow them, it's also written in normal font, instead of some manuals that say they're 50 pages long only to find that they've been written in size 14 font and double spacing - so no scrimping on content.

The main part of the ebook describes six different techniques that can be implemented immediately. Each one is described step by step, all you have to do is pick a method, put your blinkers on and follow the instructions. Some of the techniques are easy enough for even the newest newbie but in truth, none of them require much technical knowledge, and all can be done reasonably quickly. You should see a fairly fast result if you follow the steps carefully. Here is a quick precis of the different techniques.

Part 1 - Introduction

In part 1 Chris outlines the reasons why he put Project X together, the basics of affiliate marketing and the affiliate networks and a brief precis of PPC marketing.

Part 2 - The Methods

The Leech

Sounds revolting and black hat, but no it's not (on both counts!) A very simple technique that can be set up very quickly. Using not only examples from Clickbank and Adwords, he actually shows you how he set up one his own campaigns using this method - which earnt him $5000 in August of this year - although why anyone in their right mind would do such a thing, particularly when the product in question is still such a big seller, is beyond me. Chris shows you how to find the best product to promote and using his example write your own campaign.

The Affiliate Diary

Using the list method. You know the saying "the money's in the list". Well I've got news for you - they're right! I know that when I started out the last thing I wanted to do was build a list, it seemed a very daunting prospect. Don't let it put you off, it's nowhere near as hard as you might think and all the steps are once again described in detail.

The Workhorse

This is what Chris calls the 'foolproof method'. But don't make the assumption that it can be done in 1 hour flat. This method will bring you between $40 - $200 per day but it's pretty repetitive work to do, so if you have a low boredom threshold you might want to think twice about earning your money using this method. Having said that, it's easy to do, requires absolutely no capital whatsoever and there's plenty of resources to help you achieve your goal. Once you've done the repetitive work then you can sit back (for a while) and watch the money come in.

Or as Chris puts it 'how to steal from the super-affiliates'!- Yes, this also sounds 'black hat' but rest assured, it's not. This is another - no capital required - method and so ridiculously simple you'll wonder why you'd never thought of it.

Copy the Best - Part 2

If you've read his Adwords Miracle guide, then you'll recognise that this is a spin off of the same techniques as outlined in that ebook. This does involve some capital input (although not much considering the returns are around $100 per day withing the space of 30 days) and a degree of spying on the competition (I'll say no more).

The Opportunist

This is all to do with timing and spotting a product on the up. Chris shows how to find the most likely products for you to make money as an affiliate and what to do with it once you find it.

Part 3 - Advanced Tricks and Underrated Promotion Methods

A collection of more advance affiliate marketing methods such as 'cloaking' (shh) and affiliate tracking, to name but two, to help you grow your online marketing business.

The great advantage of having this manual is that it shows a variety of methods for making money on the internet and if you just dip in anywhere there's bound to be at least one method that you could try straight away and see results. Desktop Lightning is a viral marketing tool designed to help you build a list of potential new distributors, customers, or joint venture partners. You communicate with your list via a desktop application, which alerts the owner whenever it receives a message via a small notification window in the lower right corner of your screen (similar to many programs, such as the Gmail notification tool). You can choose to ignore the message and read it later if you're busy at the time. When you send messages you know that they will not be blocked by spam filters since they are delivered directly to the individuals desktop, not via an email program.

Pros

Over time, Desktop Lightning will empower you to build a list of people who are already interested in earning money from home via affiliate, internet, or network marketing. You are able to communicate with these members direct to their desktops, thereby bypassing the spam filters that prevent many of your emails from reaching their intended audience.

Thus you have a very targeted market for your opportunity or services. By gradually building a relationship with your list members, e.g., by offering them assistance and advice, you create an atmosphere of trust which increases the chances they will become interested in your business opportunity or services.

A major benefit of Desktop Lightning if you are a Platinum member (currently $14.99 per month if you purchase it immediately after signing up; if you wait to upgrade it's $19.99 per month) is the "Platinum Bonus" feature. The way it works is that every time you send out a broadcast to your downline it your message also goes out to an additional random group of 57 people in the DesktopLightning system.

Thus, not only will your messages reach your downline members, but they will also reach a random group of 57 other members. This addition to the service (added on 11 OCT 06) makes the upgrade to Platinum definitely worth it in my opinion. Where else can you send a message directly to the desktops of 57 people who are already interested in Internet, affiliate, and/or network marketing?

I should note here that Desktop Lightning does not have an affiliate program. I want to mention this fact so that you know that I'm not recommending the Platinum version because I can make money off it. I recommend the Platinum version because I believe you receive good value for your money.

Cons

It takes awhile to build a list, whether it's using Desktop Lightning or other methods. Therefore, you have to approach building a list with a tool like Desktop Lightning as a long-term process. The ads for Desktop Lightning, like this one:

make it sound like you'll be sending messages to thousands right away. Unless you have a huge list of loyal subscribers that just ain't gonna happen! Of course, if you approach the task as a marathon as opposed to a 100-meter dash then this doesn't have to be a problem. I simply don't want you to assume that a thousand-member downline from the get-go is the norm.

When I first wrote this review I said:

You must keep in mind that you will also receive messages yourself since you will have an upline too. Individuals who join late in the game ( DesktopLightning was released on 06 October 2006), e.g., several months after release will receive more desktop messages than those who joined within the first few months of release. Many viral marketing products "run out of steam" after a year or two because people realize that they will receive a lot of messages since they are at the bottom of the funnel. It can become more difficult to sign up enough new members for late-comers to make it worth their while. An exception to this rule is if the program owners keep the product fresh by constantly adding new features. I am not familiar with the owners of Desktop Lightning so I don't know what their track record is for keeping a product current and attractive to customers down the line.

However, I have since learned that DesktopLightning has built in a couple of features that ameliorate these concerns.

First, they limit the number of messages any member receives to 14 per week. DesktopLightning explains the mathematical reason for this limit, if you are interested, but the main point is that even if you join a year after the initial release, you will not be inundated with messages.

Second, if you are a Platinum member (currently $14.99 per month if you purchase it immediately after signing up; if you wait to upgrade it's $19.99 per month), you benefit from the "Platinum Bonus" program described above, in which you are able to send messages twice a week to 57 randomly selected Desktop Lightning members.

Recommendation

If you are able to promote Desktop Lightning to a mailing list or via advertising and you are patient and persistent about it, it could prove to be a great way to build a targeted list of home-based business entrepreneurs with whom you communicate much easier than if you had to rely on email. Keep in mind that if you choose the Platinum option, you will be able to send messages to 57 random members right from the beginning, even if you have not signed up a single downline member.

If you don't already have an ezine or newsletter or if online advertising via traffic exchanges, networking, PPC (pay-per-click) ads, etc. is not feasible for you, then you'll probably want to hold off on Desktop Lightning. You will want to gradually grow your downline so that you can establish rapport and trust with them and eventually have some of them join your business or otherwise benefit each other. The 57 random members you can send messages to as a Platinum member is a significant bonus but you wouldn't be sending messages to the same 57 people each week so it would be difficult to establish a working relationship with that "Platinum Bonus" group.

If you do try Desktop Lightning you can opt for the free version to see how it works and begin promoting it. However, I don't recommend this option because you would miss out on the "Platinum Bonus" feature that allows you to send messages to 57 random members twice a week.

If you do decide to take advantage of Desktop Lightning as one of your list-building, networking tools, I recommend a two-pronged marketing strategy.

Marketing Strategy

Strategy #1: As with a network or affiliate marketing business, build working relationships with your personally recruited members. Provide your downline with valuable information and generous assistance. The quality of your relationships with your team will largely determine your success. If you send sales letter after sales letter to your Desktop Lightning members, they will soon delete your messages right away.

Develop trust by sharing valuable information and support. Surprise your downline members by helping them in ways they would never have expected. If you do that, many of your downline members will come to you and ask, "So what is it you do to earn a living from home?"

Strategy #2: Since, if you are a Platinum member, you will be sending out two messages a week to 57 random members, you'll want to include something in your message with them in mind. Specifically, since the 57 people will be different each time, it's best to assume that you have only one shot at establishing a connection with them. Thus, your number one priority is to entice those 57 members to provide you with their contact information. You don't have to don't have to be as concerned about obtaining contact information from your personally recruited downline members because, in a sense, you already have their contact information as long as they are a member of DesktopLightning (but see more on that issue below).

The best way to obtain a person's contact information is to offer them something of value. For example, in my messages I offer members of DesktopLightning use of some of the marketing materials I have developed, such as banners, lead capture pages, an article reviewing DesktopLightning into which they can place their own referral link, and shares in an online advertising campaign (at cost--I don't make a profit on advertising co-op shares). In return, I simply ask that they subscribe to my ezine. By giving away quite a lot (if a person were to develop all those advertising resources on his or her own, it would take quite a bit of time, not to mention some technical know-how) I make signing up for my ezine worthwhile.

I stated above, "You don't have to don't have to be as concerned about obtaining contact information from your personally recruited downline members." Note that I wrote, "as concerned" implying that you should still give some thought to obtaining contact information from your downline members. Why? Because some of them won't stay with Desktop Lightning. It's just the way it is with any program--not everyone has the persistence to follow through with the marketing and relationship-building that's required.

But just because someone might fade away from Desktop Lightning that they won't be persistent and ultimately successful with another endeavor. And that endeavor might be your business if you have established rapport and trust and have the person's contact information. It's even better if you are already communicating with them regularly via another venue, e.g., they are subscribed to your blog feed or your newsletter. The cool thing is that since you will be trying to obtain the 57 random members' contact information, those same enticements will work with your downline members.

Messaging Tips

1. Keep your messages "short and sweet." Members are less likely to read long messages unless you are particularly good at copywriting.
2. In particular, keep the enticement you offer in return for contact information short. Your personally recruited downline members will be see this enticement several times because you'll want to repeat it in each message. It is a good idea to repeat your enticement offer because the 57 random members will probably see it one time only.
3. If you if you can't think of anything to say in your message on a given day, wait a day or two. It's better to send nothing then to send a poorly written message that doesn't offer value to the reader.
4. If you haven't read anything about copywriting before I highly recommend giving yourself an education because how you put your words together makes all the difference in the world. (Our English teachers were right--understanding how to best communicate in writing does make a difference!) The Netwriting Masters Course is a FREE e-book that I highly recommend in this regard.
